Dirty Zneakz 11 november 2005

Right, changing the format again, and hopefuly the last time I'm not actually IN Brussels myself, here's the zneakage...

FRIDAY:

::BASS NIGHT @ Fuse : Even though you cannot get around the Fuse, the focus on techno and (with Oscar Mulero) minimal is slightly too boring to really recommend it...
::Frequencies @ BOAZ: To me this is the party of the week- easily beating I love Techno on saturday because of its focus on electro in all forms from gravitating to the dark centre to scratching up to funk, showing that beyond the electro-clash mainstream pop electro and breakz are the 'field' allowing more creativity than any other genre whilst keeping the focus on the wild animal inside that craves dancing... whatever that means. Just check the lineup and try not to get excited: ardisson, bionix, dez williams, sendai , spazmic systems ,lysergic and autokinetik vs d-tronik!
:: ?WANNA PLAY ? @
Milkclub : This is one of the things the the current clubbing culture needs; Introducing new dj's. With all due restekkepa for the big names, and the quality they provide, the biggest threath to the music industry these days is the music industry? Giving new dj's a chance is the only way to keep the business healthy. On the other heand they seem pre-focused on house, and if that's the case more's the pity.
::Before party @ Le Courant d'Air : eighties music? Early on the evening? - bless my tiny alcoholic brain stem, but I'm afraid there's a reason I only come out after 11...

SATURDAY:

::Search'n Destroy @ Quai des peniches: break core is about as narrow a genre defenition as 'music', but likely it'll be fast electronic breakz... what's not to like.
::I need techno @ The Villa plain vanilla techno... I'll dance to it, but don't expect me to cream my pants ;) alhtough kudos for sticking it to the big glockenspiel in Ghent I s'pose.
::Ritmo Caliente @ Soho: Right, just take one look at that flyer and you'll know it all. This is the kind of latino thing that makes me wish I could really dance..
::Blitzkrieg Analog Club @ Recyclart: And again with the advanced electronics- although this party should have a definite rock slant...And you have to love the title, even though it doesn't make my job any easier.. yes yes, i know, it's not a job if you don't get paid.
::Music on a Nighttrain @ train to Tienen and back: mishmash of styles. This looks to me to be a typical government issue party: too focused on a etheral concept to fill up a whole train.. however I've been on this train once before, and if you just cruise from one end to the other and back and hit all the bars underway it's a pretty interesting experience.
::After Smile @ Small: apparently an electro-slash-techno thing, this is at one of those little unknown clubs I hope to discover soon.. for the moment I couldn't say what it's like. Anyone?

PS: tonite I'll be hitting the Rumba in Leuven again, for the Lektric party.. my tip for out of BXL parties, even thugh the crowd is pretty young. I won't mention the circus in Ghent again, but consider I love Money in the Zoo on saturday- It's free!

Dirzy Zneakz 28-29 october 2005 : Clubbing in Brussels

Moroder on PSP

I just discovered the PSP game Grand Theft Auto; Liberty City Stories will feature Moroder songs on one of the radio stations you can listen to when stealing a car...

I wonder if the supercar he sponsored is available in-game

"DJ: Reni Wassulmaier (Barbara Rosenblatt)
Note: All Songs On This Station are by Giorgio Marauder

* First Hand Experience in Second Hand Love
* I Wanna Rock You
* E=MC2
* Chase
* I'm Left, You're Right, She's Gone
* From Here To Eternity
"

-edit: however, you'll have your PSP 'upgrade' it to firmware version 2.00 to be able to play GTA.. no crack works atm, and 2.00 is rather uncool-

Dirty Sneakz 28-29 october 2005 : Brussels Clublife

Ye gods, 'tis another Dirty Sneakz! Halloween is coming up so I seriously suggest you get some private halloween party- but stay away from witchcraft: personally, I sold my soul to the devil and the bastard stripped it down and gave it 11 layers of Shocking Pink. Breaks my heart to see him about town in it.

Kidding aside here's the lineup for Friday:

Dirty Sneakz 21-22 october 2005: Brussels Nightlife

So it seems Dirty Sneakz makes a tentative return... props to Griet for getting me off my lazy ass.
I won't be covering all of Belgium now, I'll be focusing on Brussels, and there are some extras in the works.. well I always say that so we'll disregard it.

Sneakage starts on Friday - sort out your thursdays yourself - with old school electronic music (I'm reading 'acid' here) on Rick's Boat ( Akenkaai-Quai des peniches 44b ) courtesy of
Old Buddies and feat. Deg, amongst others.

Electro can be had from Popzero at BOAZ(Rue du Chimiste 58-60) and although I've found popzero parties sometimes lacking in drive, Tobias Schmidt is sure to hit higher gears.

Or you can get your electro kick from Infected@Soho at Soho feat. M.A.N.D.Y.

There's more stuff going on but it might be worthwile to check the centre, next to the Bourse a place called The Lounge is hosting
Bal Canal with StuBru orientated DJ's like Bobby Ewing, BeursCafe features DJ Coconuts, and
Cafe Central has The Lounge Bastard spinning.

Wich puts me onto Saturday, blessed be the gods of url cut and pasting...
Less variety it seems, although one of these days' I'm going to check out some of the smaller clubs in BXL, for now you'll have to do with the big ones, and there's no way around
dirtydancing at the Mirano. This, obviously, despite the nasty things I've said about it in the past. I won't go over it again but it had to do with posh wannabes with no taste etc. etc.

So maybe you're more inclined to check the
Fuse feat. DEG and Johannes Heil... or 'anges et demons' at Gallery Louise, wich I haven't checked out yet.. I'm thinking posh wannabe here ;)

Or alternatively, go downtown..

Breaking out of the BXL boundaries, I'm currently located in Leuven, with
het Depot located 20 meters from my front door, so maybe I'll check out the Neon Judgement followed by Nid and Sancy (admittedly less than brilliant last time I checked them)

DIRTY KOZZMOZZ

"Memory card error" the display read as I squinted through the fog at the goddamned camera.
I took the card out, put it back and tried again.
I squeezed one more pic. Then the camera crashed.
Party over.

The party, incidentally, was Kozzmozz, and I was supposedly there to have a good time. I was also supposed to stay sober. The reasons for staying off the booze were plentiful and valid one and all. One reason mattered more to me though. I needed to stay sober enough to later write this report. It was a test of both my writing skills and my professionality.
I took the camera in as a gizmo, and to test it as a possible memory aid. The report was the main goal. I'd studied the line up and their bios. I'd thought up an angle to work. This was bizznez. The party was a major one, the dj's impressive to say the least. The venue, Vooruit, was a multi-tiered maze with 5 rooms and hundreds, maybe thousands of people at the least. It was an excellent occasion to take my reporting to the next level.
I had a theory about the current party journalism. The genre had been fused by hippyesque goodwill, moronic redundancy and pure goddamned amateurism into a solid brainless slab of extatic new-speak. Basically, I thought I could do a better job at it. I had the ego. All I needed was some easily faked talent.Staying sober was, however, rather essential, and would prove basically impossible.

For despite not being native to the fair city of Ghent I nevertheless have connections there. Thus I found myself in an Irish pub a few hours before the party, emptying several pints and eyeing the barmaid. Thus I arrived at the Vooruit beyond any hope of sobriety or professionalism.
Besides my journalistic delusions there was another reason I wanted to avoid getting wasted. There is this alter ego that will surface whenever I get really really drunk, baptised the Drunk Ninja because of its desperate, nonsensical escape stunts. It made it from my dark side into a web comic. Somehow from there it became the name of a shared photo blog I was planning. But the Drunk Ninja was a cold and fearless bastard and I'd broken with him in a brightly lit emergency room. Imagine my surprise when the camera caused yet another alter ego to emerge. Well, surprise might not be an adequate description. Try drunken stupor.

This new me was obsessive, living the party almost solely through the lens. In the space of 5 hours I took 151 pictures, most of them bad jiggly mood stuff, some just run of the mill party pics. Early on there were a few attempts at documenting the party rather than the partying, futile stabs at controling the monster. But pretty soon I found myself photographing cute girls, my friends, myself, the damned walls, even. Volumes of meaningless pics in the midst of a rolling, dancing mass of euforic people. Basic photography skills got flushed down with liters of beer: aiming the cam, shooting when there was adequate lighting, using the flash when there wasn't... gone. I lost myself in my drunken obsession with the camera.
Some of this I remember vaguely, in a fluid dreamlike way. The neverending climbing of stairs. The 'sperm of the gods' decoration. The apocalyptic lightshow. The crowd, dancing, laughing. And yeah, some of the music.
Most of it I had to derive from the pictures I'd taken. Had I been having fun? Some of the pics showed me laughing. There were photographs of places I don't remember going. When did I line up for more coupons? What was I doing alone in the Kursk room? In the hall? Who were all these people having such a ball? And why was that girl smiling at me after I agressively pushed a camera in her face?

But the point both photos and memories made above all was my insane dedication to the camera. 151 pictures, and an enormous frustration when it died on me. When the camera died, the maniac photographer had to die as well. And more than the emptyness that caused me to leave the party soon after, I remember the frustration of that broken monster.

Needless to say next time I'll dump the cam and focus on the chicks. Will this require me being sober? Hell yes.
May the gods bless your pretty little doomed souls.

Black Fuel

Just read a post on BOING BOING about a guy not getting his 500 euro espresso machine to put Crema on his Coffee.
Basically if I want crema on my coffee, I go to any cafe and order one.
Appreciating this isn't possible in the states, I do have to point out that I'm currently drinking a cheap industrial instant provided by my employer.
Which puts the caffeine into my blood.

I was working on dividing the planet into coffee drinkers and tea drinkers.
Coffee drinkers would drink coffee to wake up and keep moving, tea drinkers to enjoy the process of making the tea and drinking it at leasure.
Tea drinkers do embroidery, play cricket, and think life is about enjoying the scenery.
Coffee drinkers write cutting edge philosophy, don't ever play and focus on getting places.

Now I'm not so sure. Maybe I'm too much of a junk. Unlike people who only drink from the golden teat of the finest Italian machinery (hah!) I take my kick wherever I can find it.

Any other coffee roughers out there?
